3 Lessons from taking a break from making videos

I hopped around Europe for 3 weeks... here's what I realized about life

Left to right: my twin brother, and two of my best friends Antoine and Ivan

1) Humans have limits

I’ve made over 140 videos in the last 7 months, which close to 5 videos per week. When you’re the guy writing scripts, filming, color grading, speaking, and editing your videos yourself… man, it’s f*cking exhausting

So while I was hopping around Europe, something had to give

Something I value in life is feeling present. This trip was meant to celebrate my and my twin brother’s graduation from McGill University and Dartmouth College, two very prestigious institutions

It would have been ridiculous to be in the middle of Paris, watching the sunset at 10 pm, and be like “hey Albert let’s go home I have to make a video”

The entire point of why I work online is so that I can afford to take breaks. And that leads me to my 2nd point

2) If you take a pause, the work you’ve already done carries forward

My videos serve two purposes. 1) They help me grow a loyal audience but 2) that audience will hopefully by my services as a content creator from me

Even though I posted only 2 times in 3 weeks, I was still receiving messages from people asking me about my services because of the work I’d put in over the previous 6 months

Every video I publish is basically the same as a cold email. It’s a chance for random people on the internet to see who I am and what I do

So if a video gets 1,500 views, that may not sound like a lot, but that’s 1,500 potential customers. Even if only 1 actually pays me for my services… that’s a WIN

3) I miss writing

Something happened when I stopped writing my thoughts

Videos are great

But if you’re reading this far, you’ll understand (and I’m thankful) that only the people that really really care about you and your thoughts are going to fully consume your writing

And so I want to give those people the Mike that’s unfiltered, the Mike that’s vulnerable

I missed writing, and I’m excited to keep doing it

See you guys soon!

Mike
